Does anyone have any tips for lunging a nervous horse? I am currently training a horse, Woodrow, and he really struggles with confidence and gets very antsy and nervous very easily. He has improved but since I’ve started lunging him on a longer lunge line, he’s gotten very GO and never woah. If I ask him to slow down he gets all nervous and starts pulling on the lunge line. Also, if I ask him to go he gets antsy still then and will start loping and it takes awhile to get him to stop. I don’t have a round pen so it always takes me longer to get any of the horses I work with lunging correctly, but he’s really the only one who’s ever done this. And another question :) Does anyone have any tips for helping a horse gain weight quicker? The same horse, Woodrow, was very skinny when we first started fostering him and he has gained weight but I’m suppose to be doing a training challenge for RIDING with him and I haven’t been able to ride him yet. The challenge is in October and I still have to make a freestyle and everything. We might end up moving down a division just bc he is taking awhile to gain weight and I don’t think I’ll be ready for it. But you have any tips to help him gain weight PLEASE let me know! ❤️ we already feed him a scoop of Triple Crown Senior Feed twice a day and we give his soaked alfalfa cubes every night.
